day. >> the good news is not too much here. it will be calm and quiet condition here this afternoon. we do have all eyes on irma. we'll bring you the latest coming up. >> right now roads are pretty pleasant. i'll let you know if that changes. any questions at erin fox5 d.c. on twitter. >> thank you both of you check in with you in just a few. let's get you caught up on what's been happening in the news at 4:30. fox5 getting right to the latest on hurricane irma. we are tracking the category five hurricane which crashed into several islands in the north caribbean. it is now on track to hit the turks and caicos and the southern bahamas island within the next 24 hours. irma is still packing torrential rain and winds of 185 miles per hour. officials confirm that eight people were killed on the island of saint martin which irma hit yesterday. >> overnight the center of irma passed north of puerto rico and the path of destruction is unbelievable. nearly every building on the island of barbuda was damaged and about 1400 people are now homeless. water

of the virgin islands with waves up to 20 feet high. more than half of puerto rico is without power and nearly 50,000 residents do not have water. >> airma's movement over the next 24 hours will be key for florida. residents are not taking any chances. when i mean mandatory evacuation orders are in place for the florida keys and fort lauderdale many other floridians are pack up and heading for higher ground. a lot of gas stations are running out of fuel. rental cars sold out and the last plane from the keys takes off tonight. the chaos is overwhelming as residents across the state all head to higher ground. >> preparing our house isn't the bad part it's getting on the road and not knowing what we're going to run into. we're hoping to just get out of the state of florida. >> southern florida could start feeling the impact from hurricane irma in the coming days. now, depending on irma's movement, the carolinas could also be impacted. >> this morning virginia's task force two search and rescue team is heading to puerto rico once again assist with more of hurricane irma's

aftermath. >> an elite rescue team based out of maryland was headed home from texas following hurricane harvey when some members were told they would too be helping with hurricane irma. fox5's annie yu has the latest now from the news room. annie. >> good morning to you maureen and wisdom. it is literally were undisaster to the next for these crews. nationwide there are 28 search and rescue teams who report to fema during times of disaster. all were called into texas for hurricane harvey and now they are all gearing up and ready for irma. here locally search and rescue teams from both maryland and virginia are already in place in some areas. right now virginia's task force two is in puerto rico as irma slammed the caribbean. the 45 member team was airlifted to puerto rico along with all of their equipment as well as their vehicles and they are prepared to carry out pretty much anything from rescue and recovery missions under a long list of situations. you've got flash flooding situations to structural collapses. they are ready for it. virginia task force one out of fairfax county and maryland task force one out of

even make it back home from texas when they learned they would be deploying to alabama to get ready for irma. maryland's hazmat team has been diverted to straight to alabama to await further instructions. the guys from fairfax did get to spend one quick night at home. we spoke with them last night. >> right when i pulled in my parkinging lot i knew it was a possibility we were going back out. this is a big storm. we have an idea of what things need to be added from last mission. we have a great logistic support system here. these guys were working on it when we got back probably working on it when we were in houston. >> these teams are made up of first responders and civilians like doctors and engineers and we're told more members could be sent down south so we'll be watching this very closely and bring you the latest both on air and online. that's the latest to you. back to you wisdom. >> annie yu thank you. we're

developing story from montgomery county. a search is under way for this missing woman. police say 31-year-old laura wallen last contacted her family in a text message on sunday. her family says that they've been unable to reach her since. she's pregnant and is a teacher in columbia. she may be driving a black 2011 ford escape with maryland tags m522473. >> 4:34 is the time. president donald trump -- donald trump jr. set to meet with senate committee members behind closed doors this morning. the questioning is expected to focus on june 2016 and that meeting with the kremlin connected low. the committee system expected to is questions about the firing of james comey as fbi director. >> also this morning president trump continues his push for tax reform. it comes after he cut an unexpected deal with democrats leading leaders in his own party surprised. but now he's -- he needs congress to deliver on that package. the president is banking on bi

good morning, everybody. first up we're talking total devastation in the caribbean. hurricane irma rips across the u.s. virgin islands with 185 miles per hour winds and torrential rains. eight people are confirmed dead including one child. the category five hurricane destroyed nearly every building on the island of barbuda. the red cross says it is preparing for a major humanitarian response. irma could strike the florida keys in the coming days and as you can imagin everyone is really trying get out of dodge. it's proving a lot harder to do than one might think. plane tickets out of florida have gone up more than $800 in the last 24 hours. the price gouging is sparking outrage across the state. several airlines promised to cap their prices to prevent this soaring cost of tickets. a startling admission from facebook. the social media site says it was paid $100,000 to advertise fake news during the 2016 election. the ads which

russian lawyer in june 2016. that meeting was described to trump jr. as part of a russian government effort to boost the trump campaign. >> texas congresswoman sheila jackson lee introducing an amendment to protect the daca program. her amendment to the appropriations bill would prevent legislators from appropriating funds to end action to the daca program. the program protects children brought here illegally by their parents. on tuesday the trump administration announced the end of the daca program but with a six month delay. >> prince william county police looking for this man. this is 40-year-old michael anthony king. police say he could be in need of assistance. qualifying him as endangered. he's 5-foot seven, 180 pounds with black hair brown eyes. police say he left his home in manassas around 10:30 last night. michael was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, dark blue shorts and sandals. >> good morning. thank you for joining us. >> today is thursday, septembe7t

did confirm that 31-year-old laura wallen is 16 weeks, that's four months pregnant and montgomery county police say there is concern for her emotional and physical well being. now, let's show you her picture. she is 5 feet 5-inches tall, with blond hair and blue eyes. the last time she was heard from was monday labor day holiday when she texted family members. laura seemed to be excited to get back to the classroom. she posted on her facebook page new school year, new opportunities to watch kids grow and reach their true potential. when she didn't show up for work tuesday, that's when panic began to set in. one of her cousins posted the missing poster on facebook and said waiting and trying to figure out what happened to her is simply torture. now, she was voted 2016 teacher of the year by the students at wild lake high school in howard county. the principal of the high sc

earth could be closing its doors. disney world closed last year when hurricane matthew battered the state of florida. irma is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the atlantic ocean and could strike the sunshine state in the coming days. disney has already three of its cruises, because of of the storms it's halted that. keeping a close eye on the weather. >> around 200 gap and banana republic stores will close. at the same time the parent company will [inaudible] sales have been tumbling for banana republic but old navy is doing very well. >> with deadlines looming to pay out of $400 million of debt toys r us s [inaudible] the remaining $200 million is due to
